After a very public search for a new job almost six months ago, I figured it was high-time I started to share some of my experiences with you, via my blog.
And after a chance conversation with a friend of mine last week, it wasn't too difficult to figure out what I should be writing about...
Natalie's Dress
With her Mum's party not too far away, I received an e-mail from my good friend Natalie, containing all the details I needed for the big night ahead.
Having DJ'd at Natalie's sisters 21st party a couple of years ago, I'd been
asked to do the honours at her Mum's special night. And with the date, venue and play list all nailed down, the e-conversation turned towards the weekend's shopping trip...
"I need a new dress for the do" Natalie proclaimed, before casually going on to ask if I had any 'style tips' for her!
Whilst I've always had a huge interest in fashion, I would never profess to be an expert in any sense of the word - but nevertheless, I promptly obliged and began to type a few comments from the top of my head.
What happened next probably caught us both by surprise though - because it seemed my words of advice were actually making sense!
In a matter of moments, fashion-thoughts were bubbling out of my mind like steam from a boiling kettle. My fingers were struggling to keep up with all of the shapes, styles and colourways that were popping into my head and as I looked down at my digits ...the keyboard began to smoke!
(Okay, okay - so I may have slightly over-exaggerated that last bit ...), but
it did surprise me how enthusiastic I had been in my response; It was also a really nice feeling to be cooking up some decent, educated advice for a change.
Looking back on my previous positions, I'd never really had the opportunity to
learn new and exciting things about a specific industry on a consistent basis.
But now, and unbeknownst to me, six months of fashion copywriting had subtly given me a bank of really useful tools!

| One of my dress recommendations to Natalie, from Pixie Lott's range at Lipsy. (...and also a great excuse to post a pic of the future Mrs. T!) |
I'm not sure if my reply to Natalie contained the advice she needed, but what I am sure of, is how much I enjoyed writing that response.
I was writing all about girly fashion ...and I was loving it! (Having realised this, I must stress that I later drank beer, watched football and scratched my balls a lot!). After a grunt of manliness, I took a step back and realised how bloody lucky I was to be doing a job I enjoy.
For the first time in many years, I'm finally working in a field that I'm passionate about, and aside from being paid to stare at boobs, drink beer or
watch football ...I really couldn't think of a better industry to be in.
So there you have it ...a brand new direction for my wittering blogs to wander
off in, about two of the things I work with every day; The English language ...and the world of fashion!
I really hope you enjoy the next few editions of the blog and as always, I look forward to receiving your comments.
Until next time, many blessings,
